Albion’s were manufactured in England from the 1820s until the end of the nineteenth century. This Albion pictured above right, was manufactured in 1857. The machine on the left is a Guillotine, its job is to cut paper in large quantities. Ballarat Bookbinding & Specialist Printing purchased it on September 2000 from Kryal Castle, and Keith Ryall had purchased the Albion in 1971 from a local Ballarat Printer called Harry Brown & Company who I believe bought it back in the 1870’s. Ballarat Bookbinding & Specialist Printing plan to use this Albion Iron Hand Press to print various items of interest with the first being bookplates. Below is a picture of a New Style Chandler & Price Treadle Platen. This one in particular was manufactured in the USA in 1923. |
