TODAYS UPDATE |
||
FROM THE EDITOR |
||
G'day everyone, hope this email finds you and your families well. It is now half way through the month of August and the weather is quite on the cold side, and the wet stuff we have missed out on over the last several years is falling a little more frequently now, lets hope this is going to improve over the next few years so we can actually do some boat training in our own Lake for a change. Well I guessed you all have all seen the news lately in regards to the SES bloke that was helping to carry that large tree trunk goodness knows where, well the other guys on the other side of the trunk put there end down dropping it while the other guys were still holding there end, well one old guy copped a head full of bark and timber and he got knocked out cold and fell head first to the ground, fortunately his helmet saved his scone from certain heavy impact, so remember always wear your PPE and for crying out loud don’t carry big tree trunks around if you don’t need to. Please see below for the most recent updates. Regards Milton. |

Troy is really leaving us this time. He has just got himself a plum job in Newcastle, and will be leaving within the week. We will miss him, and wish him well in his new adventure. I believe there is to be a farewell party soon so be at the next Tuesday training night for further details. |
||||
Not to mention us, the Watkins family, who are moving to Queensland to escape the wonderful snowy Ballarat weather. We will miss you guys & gals very much, but internet wise, we will be with you always and emails are easy to send and receive, so don't make yourself stangers ok. We will be departing for a 5 week holiday and recon for a place to live on the 29th of August and will be back early October for our final 12 or so weeks to start packing and setting up our new employee that will be managing our bookbinding shop here in Ballarat. |

Heather told me "one hears whispers that a certain flying machine is nursing a good sprained ankle after a dodgey landing last weekend. Hope he recovers soon." Who is this person? |
||
Also Father David is unwell at this time, we wish him a speedy recovery. |

Pr Activities Update from July 2008 Term 3 has resumed with Specialist School students on Monday afternoon 1330 -1430. Each student (we have approx 10 students with varying abilities ) is progressing through a modified form of fundamentals assessment according to their abilities at present in preparation for their end of year scenario at their school. However, they would love to test their skills against some SES members (not their regular crew) So if any of you are up for a challenge – and you could well be! --- talk to Robert, Frank, or H. Wednesday 27th August 1900 – 2100 Scout group visit to LHQ Friday 29th August 1800 – 2200 approx Lighting-Light car club rally Ballarat Showgrounds Emergency services mini morning Sunday 12th October – 1000 -1400 Menzone –Wendouree Netball centre Thursday 16th October 1600 -1800 Sebastopol Primary school fair. Thursday 20th November 1700 -2000 Napoleons Primary school fair Anyone is welcome to join the PETS team on any of these activities in clean well presented uniforms. For new members, we also take our ìworkî gear on these activities in case of a call out while on PR operations. PR activities are a good opportunity to get to know the strengths and weaknesses of your potential team members, and have some fun. It is also important for the public to see our presence in the community and get to know who we are and what we do. NO WE DONîT PUT OUT FIRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But what do we do? Just ask our school kids!!!!!!!!! It is also very important to build up good working relationships with other emergency services – can be vital during emergency situations. Cheers for now, H. for Pets Crew. |

Report from the Deputy Contoller Operations Micah Spedding
What does the future hold? This is a question which has many answers, but for us at Ballarat there will be many challenges. You will notice over the next few months a plethora of new acronyms some that you may encounter are: SAP – this is the new asset management program being implemented by the Service OIMS – Operational Information Management System IMS – Incident Management System RMS – Resource Management System TRAIN – Training Resource and Data Management System
The List goes on and on, but do not despair, the Service has put in place training programs across the state to help implement these new systems and ensure that we all know what we are doing when the changes are finally put into action. The biggest change for Ballarat will be at the Operation Management level but there are also changes that affect the day to day within the unit, the biggest of these being call signs. Yes I know what you are thinking but it is not that bad the utes will become Transport 1 & 2, the Truck will remain as Rescue 1, and the Ballarat Bus is how the bus will stay. Following evaluation of our resources we are going to put in submissions for extra chainsaws, and an extra pole saw. This will hopefully make operations more effective in the future. We have experienced some breakdowns recently and through the quick actions of those involved equipment and vehicles have been returned to service in a very short time with minimal fuss, a reminder to everyone that if you find an item which is damaged of damage something you must inform the Crew Leader as soon as it occurs so you and those around you are kept safe and damage is minimised to our equipment. Lastly I just want to say thank you to everyone who has put in so much hard work recently, with the planning for the SES Week demonstrations through to planning for our 40th anniversary everyone has taken the ball and run with it. Well Done and keep up the good work. Till next time, Micah Spedding Deputy Controller Operations |

SECRET WOMEN'S BUSINESS If you have used anything out of the "For Emergencies Only" box in the female toilets, please replace them. The original donated supplies have been mostly used, and if they are not replaced, then there will be nothing available if you have an emergency. SES Elder |
||
REMARKS FROM THE EDITOR I would like to ask other officers including maybe Team Leaders to place something every now and then in SESpit as it will give a bit of an update to what is happening in the office and around LHQ to the members of our unit. |
